Comparative analysis of combustion performance between briquettes and pellets

With the wide application of renewable energy, biomass fuel, as an environmentally friendly and efficient energy form, has gradually attracted attention. Briquettes(briquette machine) and pellets are two common forms of biomass fuel. Although they are all made of compressed biomass materials, there are significant differences in combustion performance. In this paper, the combustion efficiency, calorific value, combustion time and environmental protection performance will be compared and analyzed.

1. Combustion efficiency

The combustion efficiency of briquettes and pellets is different. Pellets are usually smaller in size and higher in density, which makes their combustion more uniform and heat release more stable. However, due to the large volume, the outer layer may burn out and the inner layer may not burn completely, which leads to a slightly lower efficiency.

2. Calorific value

The calorific value of briquettes(briquette machine) and pellets mainly depends on raw materials and their processing technology. Because the pellets are more tightly compressed and the moisture content is usually lower, the calorific value per unit mass is often higher than that of briquettes. However, in practical application, the difference of calorific value is not very significant, which depends more on the specific types of raw materials.

3. Combustion time

In terms of combustion duration, briquettes are usually superior to pellets. Due to their larger volume, briquettes burn more slowly, making them more suitable for scenarios requiring prolonged heating. Pellets, on the other hand, burn faster due to their smaller size, making them more suitable for environments requiring rapid heat release.

4. Environmental performance

From an environmental perspective, both pellets and briquettes are clean energy sources; the carbon dioxide emitted during combustion can be absorbed by the biomass cycle, resulting in a lower environmental impact. However, because pellets burn more completely, their emissions of smoke and harmful gases are generally lower than those of briquettes.

In general, pellets and briquettes(briquette machine) each have their advantages and disadvantages. Pellet fuel is suitable for scenarios requiring efficient and rapid heating, such as home heating or industrial boilers. Briquettes, on the other hand, are suitable for applications requiring stable heating over long periods, such as large-scale heating systems or power plants. When choosing a specific fuel form, factors such as actual needs, equipment characteristics, and economic costs should be considered comprehensively to achieve the best performance.
